25 Minute Pomodoro Timer

Ready to go: 25 minutes of focus, a 5 minute break, and a longer break after your last session.

Why 25 minutes?

Twenty five minutes is long enough to get properly absorbed in a task and short enough that sitting down to start feels manageable. The break that follows gives your attention a chance to reset before the next session.

Get the most from each session

  • Pick one specific task, such as drafting two paragraphs, rather than a vague goal.
  • If you are interrupted, note it down and come back to it after the beep.
  • Use the 5 minute break to stand up, stretch or get a drink, not to check messages.

When 25 minutes does not suit

Some tasks need longer, and some days you need shorter. Change the focus and break boxes above to try 50 minutes with a 10 minute break, or 15 minutes if you are struggling to start. For the full explanation of the method, see the Pomodoro timer page.
