Named Timer
Give your countdown a name. Type a few words, pick a time and press Start, and the name stays on screen above the clock.
Name added by the link you opened
How to name your timer
- Type a name of up to 40 characters, such as Lunch break or Year 6 maths quiz, or tap one of the ideas.
- Pick a preset or type hours, minutes and seconds.
- Press Start. The name shows in large text above the countdown, and in your browser tab.
- When time is up the timer shows Time's up! with your name still above it.
Share a named timer as a link
Press Copy link to copy an address with the name and time built in. Anyone who opens it gets the same timer, ready to start. You can also write the link yourself, for example a 10 minute Group work timer. Put it on a lesson slide, in a meeting invite or in a chat, so the timer is one click away.
Ideas for a named countdown
- Classrooms: Silent reading, Group work, Tidy up, Plenary
- Meetings and events: Break ends, Back at 2pm, Q and A, Next speaker
- Home: Pizza in the oven, Screen time, Bath time
- Streams and video calls: Starting soon, Be right back
Short names read best from across a room. One to five words is ideal, and the text gets smaller automatically for longer names.
Show it on a big screen
Press Fullscreen and the name and time fill the screen, which works well on a projector, interactive whiteboard or TV. For younger children, the visual timer also has Add a name, with a shrinking coloured ring.

Frequently asked questions
How long can the name be?
Up to 40 characters, which is about five or six words. The text size adjusts to fit.
Is the name sent anywhere?
No. The name stays in your browser. Your five most recent names are saved on your device so you can reuse them, and you can clear them at any time. If you copy a link, the name is part of that link, so do not use anything private.
Can I name the other timers?
Yes. Most countdown pages, such as the classroom, exam and kitchen timers, have an Add a name link under the timer.
Can I change the name while the timer runs?
Reset the timer, change the name, then start again. You will be asked to confirm before a running timer is reset.
